Orchards near Uherské Hradiště,
9th century AD
magnate from the grave 12/59
Patinovaná sádra
Moravian Regional Museum, Brno, 2021
This grave was located in the side chapel of the temple on the hill of Sadů Uherského Hradiště. The tomb originally had a brick stepped tombstone, the walls of the tomb were decorated with the el secco technique. One could even make out an incomplete half of a man's face on the tombstone in a style reminiscent of Byzantine paintings. Gilded buttons were preserved on the chest, which apparently fastened the burial shroud. According to the chosen location of the tomb and its lavish decoration, it must have been a very important person. Unfortunately, not much was preserved from this man's skull, so we proceeded only to reconstruct the left profile. It is certain that it was a man aged around 45 to 50 years, approximately 175 cm tall with a strong build.
